C TROOP PHOTOS - Page Eleven

Photos submitted by Steve Tipton

The following photos were taken and submitted by Dewey Hassig while stationed in Germany with C Troop, 1/4th Cavalry "Quarter Horse", in the early 70's.

Sometime prior to Jan 73, C troop was stationed in Neu Ulm, Germany. When I arrived in C troop, we had M114 scout vehicles, M551 Sheridans, M113 infantry vehicles, and a version of the M113 with mounted 4.2 inch mortars. While I was there, they got rid of the M114s, and got more M551s. Boeblingen is just a short ways south of Stuttgart, if you look on a map. I believe the pictures with the winter whites were taken in the Muensingen training area. C troop spent one tour while I was there at the Czech border. The troop was split between 2 camps, and I served as the armorer at one, spending about 22 hours a day in the arms room, including sleeping there. I went to the border after the rest of the troop had left on the troop train, going there Christmas day 1973 in the back of a duece and a half, with all the rifles, pistols and machine guns, my first Christmas away from home. I did get out on one Jeep patrol to see the border. *****Bill, When I was over there, only C troop was in Germany. The rest of the squadron came over for Reforger, but I never saw them. C troop was attached to the 4th Bn, 73rd Armor at Panzerkaserne. Panzerkaserne was built in 1938 for the 8th Panzer Regiment.
