MICHAEL SAMPSELL - 29 Jun 2005
Fellow Troopers,
This is a great site. I saw the message from raydog711@hotmail.com and thought I would write to agree with him. Anvil Troop is the best troop in the US Army. Raydog and I served in the same platoon. I am still in the unit as I have been since 1999. Raydog is now with 10th Mountain at FT Drum. Rest assured today's cavalry troopers of the quarterhorse are carrying on your proud legacy, fighting the good fight, bringing freedom to the oppressed people of Iraq, and defeating the enemy and his half-assed insurgency. Keep up the good work on the site and Raydog...see you at Fiddler's Green

First of all, I guess my email popped up as my wife's name, My name is Michael. No matter as my wife is also in the Quarterhorse. The unit is very family oriented. I would be proud to recieve the newsletter and I will be sending my application for membership as soon as I get a new printer cartridge. As far as assignments, I have just been lucky. I reported to the Quarterhorse on 7 Sep 1999 as a brand new private. In 2002 I re-enlisted to stay in the QH until 2006. I am now trying to do that again and have every confidence that it will go through. I have loved this unit since I arrived, went to war with them and would love to stay.
I am sure you are aware that we are currently stationed in Germany so I will try to make the reunions but I can't make any promises. Also, I see you served in Anvil Troop during Vietnam. You would be interested to know that when I got here A-Trp was actually known as Avenger Troop. In 2001 our new Commander CPT Todd Scattini, listened to us NCO's and changed our name back to Anvil as it had been during the Vietnam War. I think this helps to transcend the time periods of service and bring us closer to those troopers like yourself who went before us.
Today there is so much support for the troops. It is amazing how people treat you when you are home. You guys for the most part did not enjoy those same attitudes as the country was in a transitional period ( to put it lightly). So let me just say from one veteran to another...Thankyou for your service and the sacrifices you made for our great country and for our freedom. Please pass that on to any of your brothers from that war. Take care and we'll see you on the high ground.
Prepared and Loyal!

comments: Hello to all my buddies in A Troop.
I am SFC(Ret) Charles Raines I found your site and just wanted to check in. I was PSG of the 1st Platoon of A troop in 1967. I retired from Active duty at Ft Hood, Texas in 1968. My health has been bad the last few years and I have trouble remembering names. Wound appreciate hearing from fellow troopers that I served with in the Quarterhorse.
