Jim Watts - 1 June 2002 -
Hi Bill, Jim Watts here. I served with the quarter cav from jan 68 to jan 69. Im very happy to have run across the web site while surfing the net the other day, and even more happy and excited that I was able to help Pam in her quest for info. I told Paul Russell the other day that I feel that helping her has given me some sort of closure and believe me, that sure feels good. Feel free to give my email address to any of the folks checking in on the site, id be happy to chat with them. It really feels good to renew old acquaintances and find out how the guys are doing. Looking forward to many hours of good times, always "prepared and loyal"

Charles Jones - 18 May 2002 -
My name is Charles Jones, every one calls me CJ. I was Sgt. Jones (The REB) back then, I was in charge of the two Zippo's for most of my tours. I was in country from Jan 67 to Aug 68. I started out with two Zippo's. Zippo Yank & Zippo Reb. One day while we were pulling regular maintenance on the Yank we found a crack in the floor that you could see daylight through. A few weeks before we'd been hit by a RPG that did not go off, a couple days after that we were shook by a explosion but we found no apparent damage at that time. The Yank was decommissioned and I was left only with the Red. The day I left the unit Gen Wear met me at base camp, to this day I am proud to say that he shook my hand told me some of my stats and said as far as he was conserned I was and always be Zippo Reb. when I got out I was a Sergeant First Class, I had received many honors but like I said my proudest moments were the ones with the Zippo's and my crew. After about 1969 I have never kept in contact with anybody from A-Troop but here in the last few weeks it seams to be coming up a lot.(Phone number available upon request).

Lloyd Brooks - 21 Feb 02

I came to A troop of the 4th cav in Feb of 1964, from the 14th CAv in Fulda Germany. I remembered coming to Ft. Riley after 4 years in Germany and had quite a bit of fun in both Manhattan and Junction City Kansas. Dose anyone remember the bar in Junction City where the 4th used to hang out. We all went to California for training at Ft. Erwin and ended up in a Major training exercise out there (I can't remember the name of the Exercise) but it was one of the largest ever and almost all the units in that exercise ended up in Viet Nam. People like the 4th Cav, 101st airborne, 25th division etc It was large and lasted several days. I left the 4th Cav in Oct of 64 only being there fore 7 months but enjoyed the members of the unit very much. I went on to the 7th CAV. God Bless and I think I will be joining the association of the 4th.
