The 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry "Quarter Horse" is one of the oldest and most
decorated cavalry Units in the United States Army and has a rich history.
While this Website is the story of the Squadron, it is also an attempt to share
something about the men who made up that Squadron. Lists of combat operations,
enemies killed, and villages "pacified" do not tell the whole story. It may in
fact be argued that the raw numbers tell very little about the men who served
with the Squadron. These men, many of whom as the war went on were draftees sent
to fight unpopular and misunderstood wars, gave the Squadron its motto "Prepared
and Loyal." To fully understand war as experienced by the Quarterhorse,
you must also try to understand the men who served.
Below is a list of the WebPages on this site. The information on this site is intended to help veterans and those who care about veterans and the American experience to tell their story. Much attention has been given to the personal aspects of war, as well as many of major campaigns and battles. Hopefully you will leave this site having learned something about the nature of War as well as the men who were asked to fight in them.
